Writer-Director Johnny Tabor Presents A Tale Of American FOLKLORE

by Todd Brown, January 7, 2011 1:45 PM ,

If the job of a teaser is to hook the attention while provoking more questions than it answers then the teaser for Johnny Tabor's Folklore is a resounding success.

Tabor's not giving much up about the 1970's set horror tale but the teaser is possessed with an edgy energy and sense of style that leaves you wanting more. The cinematography is excellent, the young cast seems appealing, and it's clear that something is going badly wrong, but what?

In the summer of 1974 five friends set out on a journey across the United States. When traveling through the back roads of New Mexico they encounter what some call a Legend, others call it a Myth...but the locals call it Folklore

"This looks rather good. A great trailer that leaves you wanting more. It also has a fantastic Seventies look to it. Have a look and let me know what you think."

News – Folklore an American Tale of Terror

It has always been my theory that the more a movie is hyped, the less I am going to enjoy it. If you are old enough to remember when The Exorcist came out way back in1973, there was very little hype around it, no trailer at the time, simply the poster with the Exorcist in his dark coat and bag. Fortunately, I had read William Peter Blatty’s book published a couple of years before, so I knew the subject matter, just not how explicit the transfer to screen was. There were so many movie goers who were totally unprepared for the horror or their reaction to it. Now when I watch a trailer and the movie looks good, then I go see the film and I notice that all the good parts were in the trailer . That was it and I feel gypped! Maybe that is why this movie intrigues me. There are blurbs here and there about it, but no real information except a synopsis, teaser and cast. The trailer doesn’t reveal any horror, just the anticipation of horror. So my hopes are high for this movie. I could be totally wrong, but decide for yourself.

The beginning...

This is my first blog...it will be based on one of the most difficult dreams. Please forgive my horrible spelling punctuation and grammar.

This difficult dream of mine started along long time ago thanks to my mother. I was 7 years old the first time I sat down and watched a film or should I say this was the first I could remember. It was the Goonies.

After watching the Goonies, I was drawn to adventure, I remember as a child trying to reenact everything I saw them do. I used to draw up treasure maps and tell my friends that I had found maps buried in an old box out in the shed. I used to get my marble bag and dump it in an old box and bury weeks before I showed them the map…then we would set off to find it. I am sure after awhile they caught on to what I was doing, though none of them ever mentioned it.

My parents were always supportive of my creative side. I started art before I could walk.

As the years went by I found myself intrigued more and more with film, some of the greatest…the biggest being Alfred Hitchcock and any suspense/ horror flick. Drawn to these genres, I began to write short stories and pass them around to my friends to see what they thought. The feedback was always good.

The reality of how hard it was to become a film maker set in. Then love and everything else that a teenager faces took over and the love for wanting to write and make movies disappeared.

The great thing about dreams and passion is that no matter how far you stray from them they never stray from you.

To be continued…
